'Backyard Garden Gatherers' feed area's hungry
If you have more cucumbers and
tomatoes from your garden than you
can eat, consider joining our Backyard
Garden Gatherers to provide excess
produce to the hungry.

Rain or shine, people are donating
their excess produce to feed the area's
hungry. First Presbyterian Church of
Northville launched the program in July
and it will run through September 19th.

"The response from local churches
and people in the areas surrounding
Northville is outstanding," says Phil
Cavaretta. "This time of year, gardens
are flush with fruits and vegetables, a
perfect time to collect excess produce
for this program."
Even on a rainy Saturday, Phil filled his
trunk with fresh food, thanks to the
generosity of church members and other
area residents.
Fresh food is collected every Saturday from 9 am to noon in the parking lot behind the
church on Cady St. Then the food is given to Forgotten Harvest for delivery in refrigerated
trucks to emergency meal providers in the Metro Detroit area.

Forgotten Harvest is a non-profit organization. Tax receipts will be available at the
collection point. For additional information: contact Phil Cavaretta at 734-420-9039 or
